LEADERSHIP

Scott is a corporate finance professional with over 25 years of banking and financial services experience including more than two decades in renewable energy finance.  Prior to founding Black Solar in 2023, Scott held senior roles with domestic and international banks both in Calgary and Toronto.

Scott studied Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, and completed his MBA at McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business.  He became a CFA charterholder in 2001.

Ian is former CEO and Co-Founder of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. where he spend three decades building the business from its first hydro-electric asset into a $13 billion North American utility infrastructure company with over 3.7 GW of generation capacity.

Mr. Robertson has over 30 years of experience in the development of electric power generating projects and the operation of diversified regulated utilities. Mr. Robertson is an electrical engineer and holds a Professional Engineering designation through his Bachelor of Applied Science degree awarded by the University of Waterloo. Mr. Robertson earned a Master of Business Administration degree from York University, a Global Professional Master of Laws degree from the University of Toronto, and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Additionally, he has completed the Chartered Director program of the Directors College (McMaster University) and holds the certification of C. Dir. (Chartered Director). Since 2013, Mr. Robertson has served on the board of directors of the American Gas Association 

Robert McFarlane is a seasoned business executive in the North American energy infrastructure and finance sectors. He was CFO and Chief Business Officer of North America’s first merchant (independent) cross-border transmission line while at Tonbridge Power, a Director of transmission development with Enbridge and he now leads Mitigokaa Development Corporation’s financing and commercial partnerships areas while developing generation projects for small and remote northern communities. Rob came up though the debt capital market ranks with CIBC World Markets and holds a BA from UBC in addition to an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, (Ivey). 

Brian is a seasoned risk management professional with a strong background in engineering and finance, and a passion for energy transition.   

Brian draws upon his years of progressive risk management and regulatory leadership experience to bring analytical and technical insights into project design and implementation.  He holds an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University and a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Queen’s University, Belfast, N. Ireland.

Alex is an experienced project manager with a strong focus on delivering sustainable building solutions. With a background in construction management and a passion for energy-efficient design, Alex specializes in coordinating complex projects from early planning through to final completion.  His leadership helps clients achieve smarter, greener building outcomes across a range of developments.
